Budget travel to Hawaii: 6 tips
Many travelers dream about traveling the Big Island of Hawaii, in the Pacific Ocean. Who wouldn’t, anyways? The warm air, wonderful climate and delighful scenery compose what many believe to be the perfect vacation.
One thing we need to pay attention to, however, is not to allow the high cost of living to be a barrier for your travel adventure. Indeed, you can do some planning and get a lot closer to your Hawaiian vacation. I will share some tips now for your perfect Hawaii budget travel on the Big Island.
1-) Make plans before your departure. By that I mean you should also check online for some large luggage before you leave home, since you will use your luggage to carry more items than simply just clothing.
2-) Pack some snacks and treats in your hand luggage as well. The prices of food sold in grocery stores on the Big Island will amaze you. They can be very expensive because a lot of the items come from the mainland. So, instead of paying for this transportation surcharge, bring some non-perishable food items along with you and save money from buying food on the Big Island.
3-) Avoid bringing fruits with you to Hawaii, the exception being the case where you plan to eat them before arriving. The department of agriculture might take those away from you. You know, it is an unavoidable part of going to Hawaii.
4-) The Hilo Farmer’s market in downtown Hilo has a wide variety of fresh fruits and vegetables. You can also find lunches, nuts and fresh bread. This market is open every day, though you should follow the locals and prefer to buy food on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
5-) Eat at the mall. For instance, the Prince Kuhio Mall’s food court in Hilo works both as a way to taste local cuisine, as well as it also helps you to save some money too.
6-) Search online for vacation rentals. You will often find some delightful accommodations. However, watch out for scammers too. If it seems too good to be true, it might be.
The Big Island of Hawaii is a beautiful place to visit. Hilo, especially, is a town that has the ‘Old Hawaii atmosphere’, from before the days of so much professional tourism. I am sure you will your Hawaii budget trip!
