The inside approach is one of the most valuable golf training aids for those golfers who struggle with coming over the top in their golf swing. It is a widely held belief that your golf downswing should come from the inside out in order to hit the golf ball effectively. By practicing with the inside approach golf training aid on a regular basis you will begin to develop the proper swing and get instant feedback when you have not done it correctly.

Set up the Inside Approach aid. It is important that you set up the inside approach golf aid correctly. Place the golf swing aid directly in front of you so that when you are in hitting position you are almost standing over top of the golf swing training aid. Make sure that it is facing you and not in the direct path of where the ball is heading. The most important piece of the training aid is the round foam tubing. This needs to be placed on the unit so that it extends into your back swing. You may need to remove the foam tubing and place it on the opposite side if you are hitting left handed.

Start with your shortest distance club. Most people will make the mistake of pulling out their driver and wanting to take their strongest golf swing with the unit. This is not a good idea as your tendency in the beginning will be to focus on the training aid and you may hit it and break it. Instead start with the shortest distance club first and warm up with the training aid. Pull out a nine iron or a pitching wedge and then slowly work your way up to your longest distance club that you have.

Take practice swings. Before you place a golf ball near the inside approach aid take several practice swings so that you can get use to having the training aid within your sight. If you have a tendency to swing the club from over the top then you will find that you will hit the foam tubing several times in the beginning. The foam tubing is designed to be hit and to release a few yards in front of you if you hit it. Instead of starting off with a golf ball and adding more confusion to the process just place a golf tee into the ground and focus on hitting it instead. After taking several successful swings you can then begin to place a golf ball where the golf tee is and hit a few golf balls a short distance.

Don’t forget about proper swing mechanics. When your mind is focused on the inside approach golf aid, you may have a tendency to forget about other important swing mechanics. Remember that it is important to keep your head still through the golf swing so that you do not pull up too early out of the swing. Make sure that your knees are bent and that you do not have too much right to left movement of your hips when swinging. Don’t over-correct your swing by exaggerating the inside to out swing movement.

Build confidence over time. Don’t allow yourself to get discouraged too quickly. It may feel really unnatural in the beginning but over time you will build confidence with this training aid. Before too long you will be able to take full swings with your driver without hitting the Inside Approach aid and reap the benefits of long, straight drives down the center of the fairway. It is really one of the best golf swing training aids.
