Spring Cleaning Ideas
When the ice and snow of winter start to thaw and the temperatures outside start to get warmer, people throw open their windows and realize that their homes have gotten a little dingy over the long winter. There is less light in your house during the winter and our tendency is to hunker down and just hibernate and not do much in terms of projects. That is why we all do something known as spring cleaning. Spring cleaning can mean different things to different people. Some do many major cleaning projects while others purge old clothing and things that they do not need anymore. This article lists some of my favorite spring cleaning ideas.
- Purge and Store Winter Clothes: When it comes time to store your winter clothing, I see that as the perfect time to take stock and get rid of clothes that do not fit or that we do not wear anymore. Before I store anything, I make sure that it is something that I will wear again.
- Clean Windows: Even if you regularly use Windex on your windows inside during the year, they can always use a good cleaning on the outside. Spring gives you the warm weather than you need to climb up and clean the outside of your windows as well. You should also take down your screens and clean them with a hose. You will be amazed at how much more light comes into your home after your windows are thoroughly cleaned.
- Reorganize Kitchen Cabinets: I always have more energy in spring so I use that energy to do organizational chores like cleaning out my kitchen cabinets and drawers. I take everything out of my cabinets, wipe them down, line them with new contact paper, and then put everything back in an organized fashion.
- Clean Walls: This is not a chore that I enjoy, but it is something that I only do once a year. You just have to get it done. I use a flat sponge mop and an ammonia/water solution to clean my ceiling and walls. Once I get to the bottom half of the walls, I take the mop sponge off the handle and use it by hand. Be careful when using ammonia to clean. The room you are working in needs to be properly ventilated. It is a good idea to use cool water to minimize the amount of fumes.
These are just a few of the spring cleaning projects that I do. Think about areas of your house that do not get lots of attention normally. Those are the areas that should be added to your spring cleaning list.
