The Top Four Patio Materials

The number of options out there when it comes to patio construction materials can be overwhelming for the uninitiated. To help you come to a decision on what material to use for your next patio, here are what I believe the top four materials to use. These materials best balance out strength, durability, beauty, and value.

#4 – Patio slabs.

Patio slabs are large slabs made from concrete that are bigger than the standard concrete paver but not quite as large as poured concrete. A typical size, for example, is 24 x 24 inches. This material is cheap and strong and easy to install by any homeowner.

#3 – Brick pavers.

These pavers are made from clay and come in a variety of colors. While there are fewer design options available here than compared to concrete pavers, you’ll still enjoy the beauty and strength of your patio for decades to come. They may be a bit more expensive than the other options listed here, but the brick patio ideas that you can exploit with the material make them worth it.

#2 – Concrete.

This is a very popular option for many homeowners, and for good reason: this material is strong, durable, and, most importantly, cheap. It is somewhat difficult to install for an inexperienced homeowner, but it can usually be poured in a day by a skilled contractor.

#1 – Concrete pavers.

This is by far my favorite option, as it provides the best balance between strength, durability, beauty, and value out of all materials out there. It’s more expensive than concrete, sure, but it provides you with so many design options that you’ll ignore the price increase. In addition, you can be sure that your paving stone patio will survive for many years, so you won’t have to spend money to install a new patio again.
