Although classic white pearls are one of the most desirable colors and gorgeous in their own right, there are many other colors out there that are equally beautiful. Pink is one example – it is feminine, works well with nearly any woman’s skin tone, and conveys a softness that white may not. Best of all, pink is a naturally occurring color and is very easy to find.
Although there are many different types of pink pearls on the market, freshwater pearls may be the best choice. They are inexpensive when compared to Akoya or South Sea pearls and, because these pearls can be naturally pink, they do not have to dyed or treated. Peach, pink, and lavender and other pastel shades are all colors that freshwaters are known for. Though there is nothing wrong with dye, per se, treated pearls may be prone to the dye chipping or flaking away.
South Sea and Akoya pearls are also options you might want to consider. These pearls generally don’t have a true, uniform pink available, but instead come in white with rose overtones. This makes them a good choice for brides or for any occasion when you just want a slight hint of pink. This makes the pearls seem slightly less cold; however, Akoya pearls in particular have to be treated or dyed pink, so that is something to think about.
Pink is a great color for nearly any situation. Though they may not be considered as formal and classic as a white pearl necklace, pink pearls have the advantage of looking more feminine and casual. Peach in particular is flattering for nearly everyone. If that doesn’t work, or you have cooler undertones in your skin, you might try lavender instead. Finally, if you just want a hint of pink in your pearls, try buying Akoya or South Sea pearls with rose overtones so that you will stand out while still maintaining that classic appeal.
