A lot of people find learning geometrical concepts very hard and complex. While geometry is involved in shapes and figures, just like other branches of Mathematics, they involve complex equations and processes that are sometimes very hard to grasp and understand, especially to those who don’t have the aptitude to understand math concepts.
The easiest way to get better understanding for such hard subjects is to first learn the basic concepts. Most times, higher Math is just derivations from simple concepts from lower Math subjects. The equations are basically the same, rooting from the simple formulas that are used in simple Mathematics. So once you are able to understand the theories and processes in simple Mathematics, advanced Mathematics would be so much easier.
Let’s take medians for example. To explain it simply, when you say median, it refers to the middle value, number or location. In Algebra, a median is the middle number. After arranging the set of numbers in increasing order, the number in the middle is the median. This is easier to locate with odd amount of numbers but with even amount of numbers in a set, what you do is get the average of the two middle numbers that you would get.
In geometry on the other hand, median is more involved with location. The median of the triangle is basically the line segment from the vertex to the midpoint of the base line opposite of the vertex. If you draw all three medians of the triangle, they will all intersect in the center of the triangle called the ‘centroid’.
Easy right?
Once you advance to statistics and start learning geometrical median, then you would be able to use these two concepts of the median in order to analyze data and come up with factual representations of the samples that would be useful in many studies. Also, they become very important as estimator of location which have a lot of applications in the society.
