Fear of Freeways: Tips that Really Helps
Unknown to many, you can actually subdivide driving fear into many categories. There are those who fear of crossing over bridges, fear of driving on icy roads and the fear of driving on freeways. The prime focus of this writing is all about the latter, which is the fear of freeways.
A lot drivers have quoted several reasons as to why they have this fear or phobia of driving on expressways and freeways. Some say it is because it is quite hard to merge into expressways and freeways. Some say it is because they find it difficult to drive at high speeds and there are also others who feel as if they are getting trapped whenever they are in expressways and freeways.
However, you need to understand that you can actually reduce the chances of driving panic attacks from occuring and you can also ultimately overcome it. Here are a couple of tips that you might find extremely helpful. Read on!
When you are merging onto expressways or freeways, what you must always do first is to calculate and measure the speed or velocity of the highway traffic. Once you have this accounted for, signal the other motorists that you are about to enter the freeway and merge into the traffic.
Remember to never slow down (well, not unless the other cars do so) and accelerate at the same pace as that of the other cars. In addition, never hesitate when you are out on the freeways because this will do you more harm than good.
Another thing is that, if you feel as if you cannot drive that fast, then do not force yourself to do so. No one is forcing anyone to drive fast. If you are not accustomed to driving fast or you prefer driving at a slow pace, then drive on the slow side of the lane.
Lastly, always look around. You have a side mirror and a rearview mirror right? Well then use them. Do not just focus all of your attention on what is happening ahead of you; there are also other cars around you, so always glance at all directions every now and then.
