There are 2 types of coins that I love to look for when adding coins to my collection. I love proof coins and I love silver coins. When these two types of coins come together I really get excited. This year there are I am collecting 2011 Silver Eagle Proof Coins and the 2011 Silver Proof Set. Both of these coins are brilliantly polished and look great in my collection.

Silver Eagle Proof coins are not as cheap as they once were because the price of silver keeps skyrocketing. But ever year, as long as they are produced, I buy the current issue. And 2009 was the only year that the US mint did not make any Silver Eagle Proof Coins. But they returned in 2010 and the 2011 Silver Eagle Proof coins are just as awesome as they were when they were first introduced in 1986.

Silver Proof Sets are really cool because you get all the coins that were minted for circulation that year in proof form and a bunch of them minted in 90% silver like they were back in my parents and grandparents time. These sets are sealed by the US mint and sent directly to consumers, so each year there is a chance of getting and awesome or rare proof error in your set. I have never gotten one myself but the excitement of finding one when I get my 2011 Silver Proof Set really gets me going.

If you are just starting to collect silver and proof coins in 2011 these coins are definitely the way to go. They are not that hard to get a hold of and they look stunning when you show them off to friends and family. Just make sure you don’t open up the casing and get fingerprints on the coins. Polished coins are not nearly as cool with dirty fingers all over them. Enjoy your new silver proofs.
