If you are the sort of person who thinks that a chandelier is a chandelier and that the only difference between them is in their price, it is time to change your mind. I am not talking about different kinds of chandeliers here, just the different uses for chandeliers. Just the way you have bathroom lights and bedroom lights you get different chandeliers for different purposes.
For instance, if you are looking for a chandelier for your hall or maybe your living room, you should be looking at different chandeliers that are made specifically for these areas of the home. You cannot put in one of these in the bathroom and vice versa. In the same way a bedroom chandelier is meant only for the bedroom. If you are looking for one it is best to keep this in mind.
A bedroom chandelier is meant less for show and more for making you feel comfortable. One of the simplest ways to choose one is to look at the direction of the shade. Although not all chandeliers have shades many of them do and most bedroom chandeliers will have them. Usually most of the chandeliers meant for other places, even the smaller ones will have their shades pointing down so that the light from the bulbs will be focused downward. In a bedroom chandelier, the shade will be pointed upwards so that the light is thrown against the ceiling.
The simple reason for this is that you do not want the bulb glaring your eyes when you lie down on your bed while at the same time giving sufficient light. This is not a hard and fast rule however and you do find deviants. It is however a good rule of the thumb so to speak.
Another thing that you should keep in mind is the design of the chandelier. It does not have to be a really impressive one as long as it is one that you are comfortable with it. Many people go in for colored chandeliers for their bedrooms as this is the only place in their homes where they can truly express themselves. Get a bright pink one if you like it or even a black one. You don’t pay more for color so why not.
