Are You Influenced by Trends

Are you influenced by trends? Do you buy clothes based on what is in today? What about your home decor, do you change the colors as the new trends are announced or do you wait until you need a change?

Most of us follow some trends but do not jump on the band wagon right away just because of trends. However, trends tell us a lot about ourselves and the society we live in. Fashion, interior design and everything else that surrounds us is part of a trend, it is what society hold to be good for the moment, and what we accept as satisfying a need.

As 2010 rolls around decorating trends will show us what we hold as important. Economic effects and social changes will affect the way we see colors. This year trends will show a return to family strength and focus. People will show a tendency to want to reconnect with the past. As we explore the past and ponder the future the pursuit of possessions will be diminished.

Colors are reflective of the past
The economic turmoils we have just lived in the last year, makes people yearn for a simpler, easier life. The one we read about, the one our parents talked about and as we long for a better time we turn to the colors of the past. In 2010 we will see more muted colors, like aged greens or smokey blues both in fabrics, in paint and in accessories.

Recycling is not just a word of the future. Yes we must recycle to preserve the planet, but recycling is also using what was. By reusing, refinishing, or repainting old things we are helping keep the planet clean, but we also bring back was we think we long for. A simpler life. Using old items in their original conditions will still be acceptable. Shabby chic will not go off the trendy looks.

Interior design is a way to connect to the future but also to the past
Trends analysts are telling us that the future will still be on its course, that we will not see a decline in the gadgets we use, but they are also seeing a trend in reconnecting with the past, and our roots. People are probing into their family history, they are connecting with their ancestors history. Native American tribal patterns, and Aboriginal pattern will be heading the motifs parade followed by bold geometrics.

For 2010 colors are vibrant and yet subdued, it seems like a contradiction, but we see some cool, calm neutral colors, like taupe as well as vibrant turquoise or bright yellow. The color trends for 2010 are very usable by all home decorators.
