How to Become a Delegate – What is Involved?
To understand how to become a delegate, one must comprehend the details involved in the process. From the beginning, the person must know that a delegate is vested with the massive responsibility of voting as a representative of his district. The rules involved in choosing delegates for each party differ among states. Some procedures are however the same in all states. For one to be considered for the position of a delegate, it is a requirement that he be a registered voter. One needs to express his interest and acquire relevant information about the position by contacting the party through email, telephone or letter. There are details that the interested candidate must ascertain at this stage. They include the submission deadline and any other requirements that the party may have.
A person can choose to apply to any of the different delegate positions. The delegate positions include add-on delegates, at-large delegates, district-level delegates, official delegates and party leaders. The interested candidate must then choose his position of interest and apply for the same through filling the right forms. Filling the application should be done in line with the application procedures as set by the respective states.
Five steps must be followed by any one interested in qualifying as a party delegate. One needs to fill the candidacy statement first, followed by the circulating and filing of party petitions and them awaiting the acceptance of the application by the party candidate. The last two final steps require the candidate to garner enough votes during the principal election and finally secure the delegate position. The results are based purely on the final vote so the person vying for the position must however take all necessary steps in order to comply with the application criteria to avoid disqualification. One should confirm the receipt of the application, and in the process increase his chances of success by making a follow up phone call to the party offices.
