Different Types of Concrete Wall
Concrete walls come in many forms and are used within various applications. One way a concrete wall may be used is as part of a foundation. Within the category of foundation you may find several variations of the concrete retaining wall. Another way a concrete wall may be established is by way through home and building construction. Types of concrete walls and their various applications follow.
Two ways to build concrete walls
The basement foundation is a predominant, familiar way a concrete wall may be used. The basement foundation is built out of either concrete block masonry or insulated concrete wall forms. There are many different types of concrete retaining walls.
A very compatible pair: Concrete and Mortar
One way concrete walls are again constructed is by use of concrete masonry units.. In order to create the wall of the foundation mortar is placed between concrete blocks to seal the blocks together and in creating the wall.
A wall clothed in Insulation
Another type of concrete wall application is the insulated concrete form also referred to as ICF. These are very stiff insulation forms which include a mold, a brace to hold the concrete, and required hardware. The concrete is poured inside the brace. Once the concrete has set, the outside and inside forms are used as wall insulation. Insulated Concrete Form walls are generally found in areas where building codes require the foundation of a dwelling be insulated. The building constructor likes using the insulated concrete forms because he or she may quickly finish the basement without the inclusion of studs in the process of building the foundation wall.
ICF goes outside the box
The ICF technology is not only used in the foundation of the basement wall. Also currently there are a good many houses being constructed with concrete and foam block walls. The new type of construction is used to increase energy efficiency levels.
Energy Efficiency and endurance make new building construction a long-standing proposition
The ICF concept is able to establish one of the best energy efficient structures on the market. The walls are highly resistant to wind. The concrete by itself would not do a very good job of insulating a house or building.. However when the concrete is enclosed in foam you are afforded a very energy efficient solution. The concrete will provide endurance and keeps vibrations and noise to a minimum. If you can wait awhile, the new technology will eventually catch on and become much more affordable.
Conclusively, there are traditional concrete block walls which are highly long, lasting, and ICF technology which combines foam with concrete in order to provide a highly-energy efficient solution. A concrete block wall can be a great investment.
